Socket and sinus grafting may be recommended to help you regain healthy supporting bone and prepare you to receive a dental implant. These bone grafting procedures help ensure that your smile has a stable foundation and promote better long-term oral health and function.
Socket grafting, also known as socket preservation, helps prevent bone loss following a tooth extraction. This type of graft supplements existing bone to maintain the structure of your alveolar ridge and helps prevent the bone from deteriorating. There are two main phases to this treatment — first, our dentists will take care to preserve as much bone as possible during the extraction. Second, we will add bone replacement material to the extraction site. This type of graft can usually be completed during the same appointment as your tooth extraction.
A sinus graft, also known as a sinus lift or sinus augmentation, is a type of bone grafting designed specifically for the upper jaw in the area of the back teeth. When you receive this procedure, our dentists will gently lift the sinus membrane in order to add bone grafting material in the area where the sinus was to add to the bone structure in that area.
