Clear braces are designed as a discreet, yet effective, option for aligning your teeth. Like traditional braces, they rely on a system of brackets and wires to gently and gradually adjust the positions of your teeth. Unlike traditional braces, however, they are made using tooth-colored materials such as ceramic that blend into your teeth, giving you a more natural appearance during your treatment.
Clear braces offer several benefits:
- A significantly less obvious treatment option that allows you to maintain a normal appearance while also aligning your teeth and smile
- A more comfortable treatment option – in fact, many patients find clear braces significantly more comfortably than metal braces
- An effective treatment option that corrects all the same issues as regular braces (such as crooked and crowded teeth, gapped and spaced teeth, and bad bites)
When you receive clear braces, our dentists will bond the ceramic brackets to the front surfaces of your teeth. Once these brackets are in place, we will use a tooth-colored wire to the brackets and anchor it using a metal band on your back molars. Finally, clear elastics will be added to hold the wire firmly in place. You will visit our office regularly during your treatment to allow our dentists to monitor the progress of your smile and make any adjustments needed to keep your treatment on track.
A few tips:
Because your braces are made from tooth-colored materials rather than metal, they are more prone to staining. To help reduce staining, we recommend that you:
- Avoid dark-colored foods and drinks (such as coffee, tea, red wine and tomato sauce)
- Brush and floss daily – not only will this help you maintain your oral health but it will also reduce yellowing and staining
- Avoid smoking or using other tobacco products
- Visit our dentists and team regularly for routine exams and cleanings
You may also find that our dentists will recommend slight lifestyle adjustments, such as foods to avoid, to prevent your braces from being damaged and help keep your treatment progressing as expected.
